Experimental Study on the Partial Discharge Characteristics of Palm Oil and Coconut Oil Based Al2O3 Nanofluids in the Presence of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate

This experimental study aims to examine the partial discharge (PD) properties of palm oil and coconut (CO) based aluminum oxide (Al2O3) nanofluids with without surfactants. The type surfactant used in this was sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). volume concentrations range Al2O3 dispersed samples varied from 0.001% 0.05%. ratio surfactants nanoparticles set 1:2. In total, two different types refined, bleached deodorized (RBDPO) one CO were measured for PD. Mineral (MO) also examined comparison purpose. PDIV measurements all carried out on rising voltage method whereby a needle-sphere electrode configuration gap distance 50 mm chosen study. improves PDIVs RBDPO, MO highest improvements are 34%, 39.3% 27%. PD amplitude repetition rate RBDPO improve by 38% 81% while CO, it can increase up 65% 80% respectively. improvement 18% 95%, regardless SDS. Without SDS, presence could cause 26%, 75% reductions average emission light signals RBDPOA, RBDPOB characteristics but both events do not correlate at same concentration Al2O3.
